Dutt, the current GFW X Division Champion can currently be seen on POP's TV series Impact Wrestling each and every week. He is one of the pioneers of the X Division dating back to his time in TNA Wrestling. Sonjay has performed for other top promotions such as Ring of Honor, CZW, and PWG. Sicend, an ACW Triple Crown winner has been a mainstay in ACW since the company's debut in 2009. He quickly rose to prominence in the Light Heavyweight Division before going on to win the ACW. Heavyweight Championship in 2014, defeating Prodigy PTV in December of 2014. Since the fall of 2016, the tag team division in ACW has been dominated by the Bully Club. The 3 man team of Buzz Stryker, PJ Parker and Adam Ugly have ran roughshod over any competition that has come their way. Their next challengers will be determined in a number one contenders match on July 28th. That match will see the longstanding tag team of BLK OUT taking on a duo that is teaming for the first time in ACW: Chris Wylde and Kekoa Mana. For those who don't know, Wylde and Kekoa are no strangers to one another. Both have competed regularly on the Delaware independent circuit, as well as here in ACW. However, this will be the first time that the duo has teamed together in ACW. Making a debut as a tag team can be a challenge. In a contest where teamwork is key, it can take some time for both performers to get on the same page. Unfortunately, that is a luxury that the two will not have. This first for the team will be a #1 contenders match with the winner facing the Bully Club for the ACW Tag Team Championship. "Anything worth doing is going to be a challenge," said Chris Wylde when adrenalinewrestling.com spoke with him late last week. "I am well aware that people consider us the underdogs for this matchup. But me and Kekoa know each other very well and I think we're going to prove a lot of the doubters wrong. We're going to adapt to working as a team faster than people think we will," he later added. Those same sentiments were echoed by Kekoa as well." "We're going to surprise a lot of people," said a confident Kekoa Mana when we spoke to him over the phone early last week. "I think being put in to a #1 contenders match in our debut as a team here in ACW speaks to promotions belief in our abilities. You're looking at two great athletes joining forces to capture a championship. If there is anyone who can do that, it's us." The two certainly seem confident. However, not everyone is as confident in the abilities of Mana and Wylde. "When an opportunity at gold is on the line, those two don’t stand a d**n chance against the best Tag Team in ACW," said BLK OUT's Robbi Illuminati. "You can call me The Collector. I collect B***hes and belts. These two are just two more that me and Ruckus have to knock out on our way to that championship." Considering the competitors involved in this match, this will no doubt be a fast paced matchup. Who will be the #1 contenders? The upstart team with tons of potential? This is such an important event every year for ACW as it sets the tone for the rest of the year. What the athletes fight for, who they fight against, what their goals are, all of this is usually put in place at the King of Maryland Tournament. More importantly than all of that, Friday night is about a friend.
Its been two years since Reggie Rivers left this earth. Still, his presence is sorely missed in the ACW locker room. I remember hearing the news that he had been involved in a motorcycle accident in the Carolinas and figured that while the accident was said to be serious, we would see him again. A few weeks later, we were all shocked to find out that the man known to our fans as Prodigy PTV had passed away due to complications stemming from the accident. Lost was our locker room leader and friend not to mention a father, a husband, a family man. A month later, it was announced that the annual King of Maryland Tournament would be renamed in honor of Reggie. Many things have changed since Reggie has left us. People have come and gone from ACW. Titles have changed hands and many events have taken place. Despite all of that, one thing is for certain: as long as ACW continues, the legacy of Reggie Rivers will live on. Whether you're a fan, a wrestler, or someone assisting with this event, remember what Friday night is about. Remembering the legacy of Reggie Rivers, remembering the contributions of Prodigy PTV, remembering a friend.  Since June 30th, 2012 the story has remained the same. Month after month, the title defenses come and go. Year after year, the chances of a title change become slim to none. It's the end of 2016, and while some pretty crazy changes have happened in ACW this year, one thing remains the same: Diaz is still the ACW Light Heavyweight Champion.
On December 16th, the latest of many challengers steps up for a chance to do what no one has been able to do for over 4 years in Travis Banks. Banks, a relative newcomer to ACW became #1 contender in October in Denton, MD. This impressive newcomer has made a name for himself in other area promotions such as 302 Pro Wrestling in Delaware before making his ACW debut and becoming the #1 contender in just a little over 3 matches in the company. Not much is known about this competitor other than the fact the he has a tall task ahead of himself when he competes in his very first ACW title opportunity on December 16th. The champion Diaz is coming off of a successful summer and fall after winning a long standing rivalry with Pat Anthony as well as defeating Vic Ramon, AC Wolf, Ty Awesome, Joe Kerr as well as former ACW Champion Sicend. His long-standing Light Heavyweight Championship reign has shown no signs of slowing down. However, most of Diaz challengers over the last year are competitors he has had long standing histories with. (Sicend, Anthony, Illuminati, etc) Banks does not fall in to that category. The unknown can produce the unexpected. This unfamiliarity could give the challenger a bit of an advantage come December 16th. It's November of 2013 and Pat Anthony is sitting in the locker room at Liberty High School, the very high school he graduated from. He isn't here for a high school reunion or to visit his old stomping grounds. He's here to achieve a goal that every professional wrestler dreams of. That goal is winning a championship in front of his family and friends in his hometown. His opponent is the man who has been champion for a year and a half at the time: The MiniBoss Diaz.
Pat Anthony put in the performance of his life that night and pinned the champion's shoulders to the mat for the 1,2,3. As the elated crowd in the Liberty High School gymnasium cheered in excitement, the referee in the contest failed to notice one detail. That detail was that Diaz' foot was under the ropes at the time of the 3 count. While Diaz argued his case, ACW Commissioner Mike Ratick came to ringside to inform the referee that Diaz was indeed correct and that the match would need to be restarted. The second the referee ring the bell, Diaz hit Pat with a cheap shot and pinned the challenger for the win and retained his championship. Pat Anthony had the Light Heavyweight Championship in the palm of his hand, only to have the opportunity taken away from him by a technicality. Over the next 3 years, things get worse, then better, then worse again for Pat Anthony. He gets fired from ACW the very next month over a match stipulation. He gets hired back in 2014, joins up with The Winners and wins the ACW Tag Team Championship with Rayburn. Almost immediately after losing the Tag Titles, The Winners disband after Andy Vineberg walked away from ACW. Once again, Pat Anthony was by himself once again. After everything that had happened over the last 3 years, there was one loose end that he needed to tie up in order to move forward with his career. That loose end was winning the ACW Light Heavyweight Championship, which was still held by The MiniBoss Diaz. Pat attempted to steal the championship from Diaz in Hagerstown, but it didn't work as Diaz defeated him in a 4 way match that night. An angry Pat Anthony then faced the champion in Catonsville, where he knocked out the champion with his own title belt. While he was disqualified for his actions, his message was clear. Pat Anthony will do whatever it takes to achieve his goal of winning the ACW Light Heavyweight Championship. Its August of 2016, and Pat Anthony is challenging once again for the ACW Light Heavyweight Championship. This time, his opportunity is on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. This time could be his very last opportunity to right the wrong that happened to him 3 years ago. Will this time be different than 2013? Or will this time be business as usual? ACW returns to Denton, MD on August 20th. Tickets available at www.adrenalinewrestling.com  Little did we know that on this day 4 years ago, the man then known as Skull would be entering his last week as ACW Light Heavyweight Champion. A little over 8 days later, he would defend the Light Heavyweight Championship against "The MiniBoss" Diaz and be unsuccessful. Little did we know, it would be the last time that he would hold the ACW Light Heavyweight Championship. In fact, little did we know that the Light Heavyweight Championship would not change hands for 4 years... and counting.
When the Diaz won the championship on June 30th, 2012 most believed that the man now known as Sicend would eventually win it back before years end. In October of that year, a rematch happened and Sicend was denied the championship yet again. So was Shane Strickland, BLK Jeez, Chris Wylde, and many others as the months followed. Before we all knew it, Diaz had successfully defended the championship for a full year. A very respectable title reign in this day in age. But here's the thing..... it was far from over. Pat Anthony came close to ending the title reign around the 1 year mark in his hometown, but the victory was not meant to be as a technicality prevented it from happening. Robbie Illuminati tried for over a year to capture the championship, but was ultimately not successful in his pursuit as Diaz found a way to retain every single time. Even Robbie's tag team partner Ruckus stepped up to the plate, but could not dethrone the champion. JD Smooth practically tried to steal the championship from Diaz in a series of match, even he came up short. Meanwhile, Sicend set his sights on the ACW Heavyweight Championship, which at the time was held by Kindred. For over a year, anytime the ACW Heavyweight Championship was mentioned, Sicend was thought to be one of its top contenders. After having the 2013 Match of the Year with Kindred and the late Prodigy PTV, and fighting for the title numerous times during the beginning of 2014, Sicend won the Golden Ticket in a ladder match that guaranteed him a title shot, anytime, anyplace, anywhere. Turns out the time would be Twas the Cage Fight before Christmas, the place would be inside a steel cage in Millersville, MD. After the ending of a title defense with then champion Prodigy PTV, Sicend cashed in his title shot and pinned Prodigy for the championship. Sicend would go on to hold that title for a year, until the circumstances in which he won the belt came back to haunt him. Ruckus, who won the Golden Ticket opportunity earlier in the night came out to celebrate with Sicend after another successful title defense.... or so we thought. Ruckus smacked Sicend over the head with the briefcase and cashed in his title shot, defeating his former student and capturing the championship. Sicend's rematch inside of a steel cage would not be successful. A triple threat match 2 months later would take him out of the Heavyweight Championship picture. With a future ACW Championship opportunity out of the picture for the time being, it was time to go back to the drawing board. It was time to get back to what brought him to the dance in the first place. It was time to go back to get the championship he made his name on: the ACW Light Heavyweight Championship. There is just one problem, that title hasn't changed hands in over 4 years. "The MiniBoss" is still the champ and even after the wars with Ruckus, Robbie Illuminati, JD Smooth and many others, he has shown no signs of slowing down. Right now, Diaz is as good as he has ever been. Take into consideration that when he defeated Sicend for the championship in 2012, he was not in the peak physical that he is currently in today. This is a much more well-rounded version of Diaz than the one Sicend faced in 2012. Will Sicend be able to do what no else has been able to do in 1,455 days? Or will Diaz guarantee himself a historic 4 year championship reign. Denton, MD, it doesn't get any bigger than this.  In a first round match-up in this years Reggie Rivers King of Maryland Tournament, Kindred faces off against independent wrestling standout BLK Jeez for an opportunity to advance to become the 2016 King of Maryland Tournament winner. For BLK Jeez, this is an opportunity to reestablish himself in ACW after a long hiatus. For Kindred, this is so much more.
For those who don't know, this years tournament and every one thereafter will be dedicated to the memory of Reggie Rivers, a former King of Maryland Tournament winner who tragically passed away last year as a result of a motorcycle accident. Reggie competed in ACW as Prodigy PTV and won multiple championships during his run in ACW. He was a locker room leader, a mentor to many and Kindred's best friend in the wrestling business. Kindred becoming the King of Maryland this year would be ultimate tribute to his late friend and the perfect way to turn a year of tragedy into triumph. As great as it would be, the one thing that it wont be is easy. His first round opponent is one of the best in independent wrestling today in BLK Jeez. BLK Jeez resume speaks for itself. He is a former CZW Heavyweight, Junior Heavyweight, and Tag Team Champion in addition to being a former Best of the Best Tournament winner. He has won multiple cruiser-weight championships in the state of Maryland, but has never won a championship in ACW. Still, all of the above accomplishments show what kind of competitor BLK Jeez is: a very tough one. Kindred has been on top of the mountain here at ACW as heavyweight champion, something his opponent has not done. Regardless, he will need to bring his A game if he wants to defeat his opponent and advance in this years tournament. Will Kindred continue his path to pay the ultimate tribute to his late friend? In a tournament featuring the likes of Princeton Pike (better known as Mr Touchdown), Maryland Wrestling legends Christian York and Adam Flash, Ruckus and Blk Jeez, the likelihood of the leader of Riot City coming out on top seemed impossible. Through heart, determination, and tenacity, Sicend shocked the #ACWFaithful and won the tournament by defeating Christian York in the finals. Now, the very first King of Maryland is a favorite to win this years tournament much like York was in 2013, and will be facing a man considered by many as the underdog in Michaels Amaydo.
After not being entered in last years tournament due to obligations surrounding the ACW Championship, Sicend makes his return to King of Maryland after competing in back to back finals in 2013 and 2014 (winning in '13, losing to Prodigy in the finals in '14.) After losing the ACW Championship to Ruckus in November at GoldRush, the leader has a lot to prove going into this years tournament. After losing his rematch inside a steel cage in early February, a tournament win would go a long way in stating his case for another ACW Heavyweight Championship opportunity in the future. Sicend has the experience and has proven that he can win in a situation like this. After all, in 2013, he battled through the tournament and beat TNA Superstar Christian York in the finals despite suffering numerous injuries in the previous rounds. In 2014, he found himself in the finals yet again, ultimately losing to Prodigy. His high-risk aerial offense has paid off for him in years past. In 2013 and 2014, all of his opponents were either high flyers or brawlers. This year, the first opponent he faces, utilizes a much different offense than opponents in previous years. For those not familiar with Michael's Amaydo, lets just say that he is a man of many "personalities. " One is Michaels's, a very talented former amateur wrestling who is considered by some to be the best kept secret in professional wrestling. the other is apparently his "manager" Lars Madison, a manipulative alcoholic who seems to be in control of the other "personality." If you have ever seen Michael's perform, you can immediately notice how skilled this up and coming competitor is in the ring. Unfortunately, his win-loss record currently does not reflect how talented he is, which some point point to the influence of Lars over Michael's Amaydo. Regardless of the influence or the win-loss record, Amaydo has put together a string of very impressive performances over the last several months. At Twas the Cage Fight before Valentines Day, he controled most of his contest with PJ Parker, until the "Lars" Factor reared its ugly head, resulting in a loss once again. Make no mistake, Michaels Amaydo has the talent and ability to become King of Maryland. However, he will need to devote 100% of himself to winning this tournament. It more than likely is easier said than done in his case. After all, some of the greatest battles a man will ever face, come from within. Who will advance in this first round matchup? The only way to find out is to be there, April 1st, when ACW Presents: The 2016 Reggie Rivers King of Maryland Tournament.  In the first round of the 2016 Reggie Rivers King of Maryland Tournament, the 2015 King of Maryland Louis G Rich will face off against long time rival and ACW Light Heavyweight Champion, Diaz. For those who don't know, this match was the finals of last year's tournament in which Louis G Rich won. But, a lot has changed since last years finals.
After winning the King of Maryland Tournament, Louis G Rich focused his attention on the ACW Light Heavyweight Championship held by his upcoming opponent, Diaz. In a series of matches that can be described as nothing short of amazing, Louis G Rich was unable to win the championship from "The miniBOSS." There is no shame in that. Over the last 3 years, many opponents have tried and failed to take the Light Heavyweight Championship from Diaz. However, coming up short in that series of matches killed The King of Maryland's momentum, and he soon experienced a series of losses in addition to the loss of his manager, when Andy Vineberg left the company in December. For Diaz, his year continued with him doing what he does best: successfully defending his Light Heavyweight Championship over and over again. Not to say there wasnt a few roadblocks along the way. His rivalry with JD Smooth took a toll on his health after the brutal series of matches they had in 2015 and early 2016. Though as brutal as those matches were, the Light Heavyweight Champion still persevered. "Diaz has to be the most reliable performer in ACW today," said one unnamed ACW competitor. "If I were a betting man, I would say that he has a good shot at adding a crown to go along with that championship this year." It would not be the first time that a competitor made it to the finals two years in a row. Sicend reached the finals in the 1st and 2nd King of Maryland Tournament, with a tournament victory in the 1st. Both competitors in this match could be the 2nd competitor to achieve this IF they reach the finals. Can Louis G Rich continue his path to becoming a two time King of Maryland, or will Diaz start his journey to the crown once again?
