His opponent has yet to be determined. This will be the first appearance in ACW by "The Franchise" in 3 years. For those who don't know, in addition to being the first ever ECW World Heavyweight Champion, Shane Douglas was also the first ever ACW Heavyweight Champion. He won the title at ACW's inaugural show in 2009. Shane is best known for putting Extreme Championship Wrestling on the map in 1994, when he threw down his newly won NWA World Heavyweight Championship and proclaimed himself the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. After leaving the promotion breifly in 1995, he returned to win the ECW TV Championship as well as another World Heavyweight Championship before leaving for WCW in 1999. A successful return to ACW, however will be no easy task. Tommy Dreamer, who will be making his ACW debut on May 17th is known worldwide as "The Innovator of Violence." Known for being the heart and soul of the 90's counter-culture wrestling promotion ECW, Dreamer was involved with the Philadelphia based promotion from the very beginning to the very end. It has been announced that on Saturday, May 17th Adrenaline Championship Wrestling in conjunction with Big Time Wrestling and Dick Caricofe Promotions will present Chaos in Carroll County 2, Live at Liberty High School in Eldersburg, MD. This event follows up on the highly successful November 2013 event Chaos in Carroll County that set an ACW attendance record. As the old cliche goes, records don't bend, they break.
Officials involved with all 3 promotional groups look to set an attendance record with the upcoming mega-event, with the announcement of 4 pro wrestling legends to take part in the festivities. First, one-half of one of the greatest tag teams to ever grace a WWE ring: Matt Hardy. Joining Hardy will be one of the most recognized names in the history of ECW: "The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer. Additionally, Multi-time WWE Womens Champion and 2014 WWE Hall of Fame Inductee Lita will be making an appearance at this star studded event. Finally, another 2014 Hall of Fame Inductee and one of the most recognized pro wrestlers in history, Jake "The Snake" Roberts will be on hand to take part in a 6 Man Tag Team contest, teaming with Pat Anthony and Bobby Starr to take on Andy Vineberg's Winners. "This will easily be the biggest event in ACW history" said ACW Commissioner Mike Ratick. "We are very excited to be working with Big Time Wrestling and Dick Caricofe Promotions to put together this mega-event for all of our great fans in Maryland," he later added. Information on tickets and additional talent will be announced in the coming weeks, but one thing is for sure: you DO NOT want to miss this event. by James Noland If you missed the 2nd Annual King of Maryland Tournament last night, you missed ACW continuing to do what we do best and that is tear down the house. If you have visited adrenalinewrestling.com over the past several months, you have probably heard us speak of the many changes that have taken place over the last year. The biggest of all of those changes is that despite the heavy competition in the area and despite the increased schedule of shows over the past year, ACW has continued to raise the bar at every single event. On top of that, the talent continues to surprise us month after month. Take last night for example.
Prodigy dominated the King of Maryland Tournament. Everyone knew he had the talent to do so, but many thought his uncontrollable personality would cost him in the long run. Last night, a focused and determined Prodigy showed up and let everyone know who the most dominant athlete in ACW was. Although Skull took the man to his limit last night, Prodigy prevailed to take the crown and in a surprising display of sportsmanship, shook Skull's hand in a show of respect to end the show. It has been said over the past few months that if Prodigy stays focused, he could be ACW Champion by years end. If last night was any indication, that prediction may very well be true. As dominant as Prodigy was, the most surprising participant in the King of Maryland Tournament had to be Louis G Rich. The charter member of Andy Vineberg's Winners not only defeated one of the biggest stars in the history of Maryland wrestling in Ruckus, but may very well have had the Match of the Night against Skull in the King of Maryland Semi-finals. Could Andy Vineberg's guidance lead this up and comer to championship? Before yesterday, I had my doubts. Those doubts are long gone. Speaking of surprising performances, what about the miniBOSS Diaz? Before running into the brick wall that was Prodigy in the 2nd round, ACW's resident Lucha Libre specialist defeated not one, but TWO opponents in the first round. Technically, he defeated the same amount of opponents as the King of Maryland finalists defeated to reach the finals. This is more than likely a fact that ACW officials (Commissioner Ratick in particular) will be hearing about for the next two months to justify more opportunities for himself. As annoying as it will be, it will be justified this time. Skull continued to do what he does best, surprise us with every aerial maneuver he executes and outperform everyone in the tournament. Had the man in across the ring from The Unholy Enigma in the finals been someone else other than Prodigy, we may have had a back to back tournament winner. Ive said it once and ill say it again, I would not be surprised at all if Skull won the ACW Championship in the near future. Whats the biggest surprise you ask? The fact that the two biggest stars in the tournament (Christian York and Ruckus) did not advance past the first round. Two men with world-class resumes and have traveled the world over did not win a match last night. Think about that for a moment. The two competitors that have tested their abilities against the best in the world did not earn a victory in the tournament. What could that mean? It could mean that York and Ruckus may have had an off night. It can and does happen. It could mean that that the young up and comers involved in this tournament may have simply had a lucky night. After all, on any given night, anybody can beat anybody. Or maybe it means that the future of Maryland wrestling is right here in Adrenaline Championship Wrestling. With ACW ready to go "Big Time" with Chaos in Carroll County II coming up on May 17th, the future could not have arrived at a more perfect time. We are a little under a month away from the 2nd Annual King of Maryland Tournament in Millersville, MD. To say that the stakes could not be any higher would be an understatement. In just the 2nd year of its existence, the King of Maryland trophy has become one of the most coveted prizes in all of Maryland wrestling. Over the last year, wrestlers from not just the state of Maryland, but the entire country have sent tapes, contacted promoters, and expressed desire to obtain a spot in this coveted tournament. But, like the old saying goes; many have called, few are chosen. Only the best of the best in Maryland were chosen for this prestigious event. With the tournament taking place in what could be the biggest year in ACW history on the biggest show of the year, the stakes are the highest that they have ever been. Why so prestigious? Winning this tournament can elevate an athlete's career. Look at last year. It's hard to argue that Skull didn't have the best year of his career last year. After winning the tournament, he was cemented in the ACW Heavyweight Championship picture for the rest of 2013. Not a bad year considering that he was widely considered to be strictly a Light Heavyweight competitor the year prior. A tournament victory not only means more money for a competitor, but far more championship opportunities as well. More opportunities mean that the odds are greater for a particular athlete to win a championship. Things can change for an athlete overnight with just 3 wins. Lets not forget about the other 7 competitors that appear in the tournament. Just earning a spot in this event means that you are one of the very best competitors in the state. In an area that has featured some of the very best Professional Wrestlers in the entire world, being considered as one of the best in Maryland is quite an honor. One great match or dominant performance in this event can be huge for any participant looking to make a statement in 2014. With ACW looking to stage more events in 2014 than ever before, this means more opportunities for championship matches than ever before. You have to believe that a great performance in the King of Maryland Tournament would put a competitor under consideration for those championship opportunities. The competitors Last year's tournament winner can benefit the most from a back to back tournament win. After a year of consistently contending for the ACW Heavyweight Championship, another tournament win could finally rid Skull of the "underdog" tag that he is commonly associated with. If the Riot City Superstar wins the tournament again, I guarantee an ACW Championship victory in the very near future.
Either of the Hell Cats could easily benefit from winning this tournament. It could help either man successfully transition into a singles career and even greater championship accolades. It will be tough, especially since they're facing each other in the first round. For two opponents so evenly matched, the winner could enter the second round out of energy and too worn down to obtain another victory. A win for Christian York would easily cement Christian York's legacy as the greatest wrestling in the history of Maryland independent wrestling. It will be tough considering that York will be facing opponents whose offense mainly focused on speed. If the veteran can dictate the pace off his matches throughout the tournament, you're looking at the next King of Maryland. Fact. If you ask me who could benefit from this tournament the most, I would say Louis G Rich. Its a realistic possibility for him to win this thing. Ever since joining The Winners, hes been on a mission to get to the top of ACW. There is no one training for this tournament more seriously right now than Louis G Rich. Chris Wylde is a man who as popular as he is, has yet to make a serious mark in ACW. What better way to make that mark than winning the King of Maryland Tournament. Ruckus is in a similar position as Christian York, a veteran who could cement a legacy by winning this tournament. He recently lost to Kindred in an ACW Championship match at Chaos in Carroll County, a loss that he was not happy about. A tournament win could get him back in line for another ACW Championship opportunity. Last, but certainly not least, Prodigy. A man who has been angry for a year over failing to win last year's tournament. My advice to anyone who has to face this man in tournament matches this year: Run, call in sick, don't show up. Its not going to be a good night for anyone who has to face this man. If this man can control his anger, he very well could be the tournament winner. If he cant control his anger, he more than likely will get DQ'ed early on, and one unlucky participant may very well be eating his meals through a straw. March 8th, the 2nd King of Maryland will be crowd. The stakes could not be any higher, and its anybody's ball game. Who will claim the throne? |
